Meet the Maker

Origins

In 2012, Sora was diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Faced with the limitations and side effects of conventional treatments, she embarked on a journey into the world of herbal medicine. This exploration not only offered her new avenues for managing her health but also sparked a passion that would soon blossom into Sora Blu Apothecary.

Growth and Evolution

From 2016 to 2021, Sora shared her creations with the world through Etsy and local markets, building a devoted following. A two-year sojourn in England briefly paused her business, but upon return, Sora adapted her approach. Today, you can find her carefully crafted goods at The Sou’wester Lodge in Seaview and at select seasonal markets.

Facing New Challenges

In 2021, Sora’s health journey took an unexpected turn, leading to additional diagnoses including POTS, PCOS, Endometriosis, depressionand nerve issues. These challenges, while daunting, have deepened her understanding of chronic illness and reinforced her belief in the importance of holistic wellness. However, the onset of chronic pain has necessitated a shift in Sora’s approach to her craft. Production has slowed as she navigates these new health realities, allowing her to focus on creating small batches of her most cherished formulations. This change in pace has brought a new level of intentionality to her work, with each product reflecting not just her expertise, but also her personal journey of resilience and adaptation.

Artistry in Aromatherapy

Sora’s current work is a beautiful fusion of memory, poetry, and aromatherapy. She creates essential oil perfumes that serve as olfactory gateways to gentler times, distilling cherished memories and poetic inspirations into fragrant experiences that soothe both body and soul.

At Sora Blu Apothecary, each product is more than just a botanical remedy—it’s a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the enduring power of nature to heal and inspire.

My Holistic Approach to Nourishment

At the core of my philosophy lies a profound understanding: true nourishment extends far beyond mere sustenance and rest. We recognize that everything we consume—whether tangible or intangible—plays a crucial role in our overall well-being.

The Spectrum of Influence

  • Physical Intake: What we eat and drink can be either healing or inflammatory, cooling or fiery.
  • Environmental Factors: The spaces we inhabit and the air we breathe significantly impact our health.
  • Social Connections: The company we keep shapes our mental and emotional state.
  • Mental Landscape: Our beliefs, thoughts, and habitual mindsets profoundly affect our physical health.

While not all these elements are physical, they collectively influence our physiological state in powerful ways.

A Personal Journey

My decade-long experience with chronic disease has been a profound teacher. I’ve learned that even when adhering to a strict anti-inflammatory diet, maintaining a regular exercise routine, and meticulously caring for my physical body, my overall health can still falter if my mental and spiritual well-being is neglected.

Consistently, I’ve observed that my flare-ups are triggered not by physical factors alone, but by sustained periods of anxiety and disruptions to my established routines. This pattern underscores the intricate connection between mind, body, and spirit.

Embracing Fluidity in Wellness

Wellness isn’t an achievement to be unlocked. It’s a way of living, a set of boundaries and habits, and an understanding that our needs are fluid and ever-changing. Our approach to health must be equally adaptable.

“Healing is full surrender.”

Just when we find consistency, change inevitably comes – through seasons, environments, life events, or our own aging bodies. This constant flux can be challenging, especially for those of us dealing with chronic illness. However, our sensitivity to these changes is also our strength. By embracing this sensitivity, we can:

  • Detect change early
  • Move with it gracefully
  • Conduct and direct it
  • Ultimately befriend it

The Power of Optimism

“Healing is unapologetic optimism.”

Our bodies are always on our side, even when it doesn’t feel that way. They inherently want to heal. We must learn to view symptoms not as system failures, but as calls to action – our body’s way of asking for the right tools.

While relapses and flares can bring grief, we choose to see them as opportunities:

  • To collect valuable data about our bodies
  • To fine-tune our self-awareness
  • To refine our personal wellness strategies
  • To create boundaries

Redefining Strength and Health

“Strength equates to one’s ability to be gentle.”

Being healthy doesn’t mean being free of all challenges. Your value and lovability are not determined by your state of health. We must override the belief that health is only to be pursued when unwell.

Liberation Through Self-Redefinition

We have the power to liberate ourselves from limiting beliefs:

  • Rewrite your thoughts
  • Unlearn harmful beliefs
  • Heal on your own terms
  • Redesign your life
  • Rebrand your self-image

“Give yourself permission to heal, give yourself grace in your grief, and patience in your pursuits.”

Remember: You are not what has happened to you. You are not your illness. You are the hero you’ve been waiting for.

In our journey together, I invite you to embrace this philosophy of healing – one of gentleness, adaptability, and unwavering optimism.

Embracing the Magic of Ritual

The Power of Everyday Wonder

In our fast-paced world, it’s easy to overlook the magic in the mundane. But what if I told you that everything can be a ritual? That the ordinary can become extraordinary through the simple act of intention?

Transforming the Everyday

  • Choice: We decide what holds importance and magic in our lives.
  • Perspective: By choosing to view routine actions through a lens of wonder, we transform our daily experience.
  • Rediscovery: In pausing to appreciate the details of typically humdrum moments, we reawaken our childlike sense of awe.

“We can override mundaneness with amazement.”

By exercising this ‘muscle’ of mindful appreciation, we don’t just observe life – we fully inhabit it. We become present, engaged, and alive in each moment.

The Art of Hosting Sacred Circles

As a facilitator of many circles, I’ve developed a unique approach to creating meaningful group experiences.

My Facilitation Philosophy

  1. Create Space: My primary role is to establish a safe, open environment.
  2. Allow Natural Flow: I believe in minimal direction, allowing the circle’s energy and intention to emerge organically.
  3. Trust the Process: By stepping back from rigid instruction, we make room for authentic magic to unfold.

An Invitation to Sisterhood
